IPL Laser Hair Removal

In the last decade, intense pulse light therapy (IPL) has been devised to rejuvenate the face, treat acne, remove unwanted hair, and/or erase the fine lines. IPL is slightly different from a laser. It is a broad band of intense light which is used to treat a variety of skin disorders, like facial pigments, brown spots or wrinkles. Unlike a laser, treatment with IPL is much faster and the results are also more rapid. IPL therapy sessions are usually done as an outpatient in a clinic or a spa. The treatment time depends on the area being treated and there is little or no downtime afterward. The procedure usually takes anywhere from 30-45 minutes and is relatively painless. Few individuals do develop some redness which can easily be concealed with facial makeup.

The IPL treatment is perfect for the individual who has signs of photo-aging. Individuals who have Rosacea, reddish discoloration, melasma, enlarged pores or fine lines tend to show the best response. The results of IPL are not immediate but take a few weeks to become obvious. The end result is a significant decrease in skin blotches and the appearance of an aesthetically pleasing youthful face.

IPL can be used to treat photoaged skin on the face, neck, chest and hands. Both men and women are candidates for this treatment.

IPL photo facial treatments are slightly more expensive than dermabrasion or chemical peels but much less expensive than laser skin rejuvenation. IPL Photofacial treatments can be used in conjunction with Pelleve radiofrequency treatments of fine to moderate wrinkle reduction procedures and botox injections as well as fillers such as Juvederm for an amazing result!

Intense pulse light (ILP), or IPL Laser Hair Removal in Peoria AZ, at Millennium Laser and Aesthetic Center, is a relatively new technique designed to remove hair. The device generates a beam of light which is aimed at the hair follicles. The light beam is absorbed by the hair follicle resulting in the destruction of the organ. Once the hair follicle is damaged, the hair production is diminished and the hair can easily be removed. Over the ensuing few days, the residual hair falls off. Unlike lasers, IPL causes minimal damage to the surrounding skin and other structures.

The one major difference between IPL and laser is that the former does not use a single wavelength to target the hair follicle. The wavelength is dependent on the duration of exposure and energy level of IPL. Further, the IPL handpiece covers a much larger surface than a laser and thus, the procedure is performed much faster. This technology is more geared towards removing hair from large areas of the body like the back, chest or legs.

IPL is ideal for an individual with light skin and dark hairs. Individuals who have dark skin generally do not respond as well. Hair removal by the IPL systems is done in a number of spas and clinics. The time required to remove hair is dependent on the area treated.

Prior to the procedure, it is highly recommended that one stay out of the sun for at least 4-6 weeks to allow the skin to regain its normal color and avoid skin sensitizing creams and medicines.

Because hair grows in phases, each treatment only destroys the active growth phase. Thus, most individuals require typically anywhere from 2-5 treatment sessions.
